Cloudy Wednesday

The 2nd week of March is cloudy. According to metereologits the coming days will be rainy. Today in the early morning, on this cloudy Wednesday, I walked 45 minutes at a fast pace, although the weather conditions. While I was walking I noticed that the statue of the American sailor and the girl (picture above on the left) has nothing to do with Italy ... I don't agree with the Mayor's choice. 

The sky was also cloudy yesterday at night. This image is the view out of my window at night.

The owner of this XXVII century old building (picture below), which is located in the historical center of Civitavecchia, offers reneved air-conditionig rooms with private bathrooms, free WiFi and Kitchenette with fridge. It's perfect for both long stays or quick visits.  

Tourists can discover this architectural gem, which was built on the ruins of a castle.

Sunny Wednesday

 

Just three pictures taken this morning, on a sunny Winter Wednesday.

It seems many people like to enjoy their boats in Winter.

And last but not least, yesterday I had a delicious pink and yellow pizza: mozzarella cheese, dried ham and corn. A well balanced pizza in terms of carbs and proteins. And, most importantly, that pizza was made with unrefined flour ... valuable vitamins and minerals had not been removed.

Foggy morning

 

This  new week begins with a foggy morning. A combination of coolest weather and the rise of humidity makes a misterious world around us.

A foggy atmosphere is one of the best natural scenery. It creates some picture-worthy moments.

The fog gives a picturesque atmosphere also along the pedestrian area of the town.

We had a particularly cloudy days here in Italy, as the sky was full of clouds last week. It wasn't ideal for a trip to the beach. 

On the contrary, today is a sunny Sunday and water is translucent. We can see through it.

On this sunny Sunday I have seen two police officers while they were travelling by jet skis. I didn't expect police officers to do that.

  This morning the waitress wrote in French languange on top of milk surface. I was so curious to know why she didn't write "good morning" or "buongiorno". She said she was proud of Quebec, the Canadian province where French is the sole official language. She also explained that this month mandatory vaccine requirement for truckers entering Canadian had met strong disapproval in Quebec. The Canadian Prime Minister may decide to invoke a never-before-used emergencies law. 
• Meanwhile, in my country this week 500 thousand unvaccinated Italian citizens over 50 have been suspended from work and left without salary. The Italian Prime Minister said: "The unvaccinated are not part of our society". That's typical of authoritarianism!
• In addition, Italian MPs that are over 50 and not triple-vaccinated are no longer allowed into the Parliament. They can't even vote against the decree that established that measure. No similar measure has been taken in the Western world. 
• Next stage of psychosis: taking children away from parents who refuse to vaccinate them. I think we (Westerners) are so oppressed we believe to be free.

• I took a picture yesterday while I was running close to the port. it has nothing to do with an authoritarian system that forces people to sign a piece of paper where it is written in black and white that the government didn't force them to inoculate vaccines. It shows a view of the port of Civitavecchia, 70 kilometers North from Rome. 
• 

• The last picture shows a "Vespa scooter", an Italian luxury brand  manufactured by Piaggio. Since the late 1940s, after WWII, the Vespa has evolved from a single model motor to a full line of scooters. A friend of mine owns the old Vespa below. It was manufactured more than 50 years ago. The name means Wasp in Italian language.

Parthenope (Naples)

On the small island of Megaride there is the oldest standing fortification in Naples (picture above). During the 8th century BC Greek colonists founded on the island of Megaride, which is now a peninsula, the first nucleus of the city of Naples (South Italy). They named the settlement Parthenope, after the siren in Greek mythology. 

The seagull in the picture below is enjoying the gulf of Naples and its volcano. 

Since Friday 24 September I have been in Naples, as my mother and my two sisters live there with their families. I noticed that many people, who live in Naples, wear a mask outdoors. After a while I learnt that Naples mayor ordered to continue to wear masks and observe social distancing rules everywhere. He is afraid the virus may be still dangerous, although more than 60% of people who live in Naples are fully vaccinated.

The picture below shows an old local market in Naples, where I bought Italian walnuts, almonds and hazelnuts ... unfortunately, grocery and supermarket clerks in Rome and surroundings (where I live) sell walnuts, almonds and hazelnuts that are almost exclusively shipped from great distance, such as Argentina, Australia, Chile, South Africa,  US (California), Turkey, etc. 

I think eating local food is better for us, for the environment, and for our taste buds.

Six random pictures about summer holidays in Italy

As request by some blogging friends I put six random photos from Italy. I am glad to hear they enjoyed seeing summer holidays in Italy through my blog. 

This summer many tourists went to see the typical limestone dwellings with their conical roofs (Alberobello, Italy). My daughter, who is still there on holiday,  sent me the picture below.

I took a picture of  Civitavecchia harbour from the table of the restaurant where I had dinner yesterday (The cruise ship in the picture below hasn't been sailing since the epidemic began in early 2020).

5 pictures of a Nordic island

Yesterday my son sent me some pictures which he had took in Iceland. At the moment my son is still there. He says the month of August is ideal for enjoying holiday in that Nordic island country situated in the North Atlantic Ocean.

After I had seen the pictures, I realised that Iceland offers its guests unique experiences and a very active holiday.

Close to the Austrian border

My son has just sent me the following pictures which he took in the Northern part of Italy. This week he went  in the Alps close to the Austrian border.

The pictures show that a wellness holiday in the Alps can offer snowy pastures hikes, walks past marvelous lakes and secluded forests.  I would like to share these unusual images of the Italian territory.

Tolfa and its ancient castle

Central Italy witnessed in medieval time the growth of a number of castles, abbeys, and small inhabitated villages. That territory offers the opportunity to find medieval villages and areas of historical interest, like Tolfa and its castle.

Tolfa's ancient castle, which is located 80 kn North from Rome, had a defensive function.

Wooden doors in Italy

It's time to enjoy the springtime beauty of our countries. The picture above shows the running path I like the most, which is located 80 Km North from Rome. Following the mostly flat coast, the path leads to two archeological sites. The first one dating back to the fourth century b.c. is visible in the middle of the picture, close to the sea. 

The following pictures shows some eavy wooden doors I saw while I was walking through the oldest neighborhood of the town. 

As I mentioned in my previous post, walking through the old part of the town gives me the opportunity to see many stones that tells us a fascinating past.

The Italian government is still imposing a nationwide corfew from 10:00 pm until 05:00 am except for work or health reasons.
