When we walk past the border checkpoints of Vatican city we noticed that we are close to the smallest country in the world. Actually, it is encircled by 2-mile border with Italy.
One week ago I went to Rome for job, and on the way back, in the early evening, I took two pictures of Vatican Square. Tourists weren't there, as the Italian government hasn't eased Covid restrictions yet.
Yesterday the Japanese restaurant, Kokusai, here in my town, delivered the food that we had at dinner. It was really delicious! We look forward to getting Japanese food once again next month.
The cups of Italian cappuccino here below weren't served in Vatican City and its surroundings. I already mentioned the nice waitress who like writing "Good Morning" ("Buon giorno" in Italian language) on top of milk surface.

Good morning dear friend. Of course I have only seen photos of the Vatican, but there was always hundreds of people in there. What a sight to see it empty. Ohhh the food looks so good and prepared very well. I have to say that when I visited Japan the food was some of the best I have eaten. My favorite was the live squid and the prepared eel. LOL The art cappuccino is lovely and that cake looks very soft and flaky. Plus give me raisins on a sweet bread and I am in. Ha ha ha. Have a great day.

Actually as mentioned by Nicole, it is unusual to see Vatican Square so empty. There were many restaurants, coffees and shops in the two neighbourhoods surrounding Vatican city, as tourists mainly from East Asia and Americas used to visit Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel, and St. Peter Church. Unfortunately, the main problem is that many waitresses, guides, taxi drivers, tour operators, etc. are now unemployed. And Vatican Square and its surroundings seem a part of a ghost town. Covid-19 epidemic destroyed tourism (invisible export) in many places around the world.

I visited the Vatican 5 years ago and I really enjoyed the tour. I had read and seen so much on TV but to be there, the feeling was awesome. Your Japanese food looks fresh and delicious and you must have been hungry cos there was a lot to eat! The art work on the cups of coffee are gestures from a kind barista.

I'm so happy to hear you enjoyed Rome and you were interested in Vatican City's tour. I used to see many tourists from East Asia who were visiting Vatican Museums and other Vatican's landmaks.
Actually the waitress (or barista, as you mentioned) is very kind. Her artworks on the cups of coffee show she loves her job.

wow the smallest country sounds really small. How nice that those horrible times of monarchy are gone and demcracy is liberated common people to make choice for themselves.
