Most of the surviving medieval architecture is to be seen in churches and castles. An excellent example is the ancient Romanesque church named Santa Maria Maggiore, and located in Tuscania (Central Italy), 90 Km North from Rome. The church was built in 1206, and it was reconstructed many times over the centuries. The interior has columns and pillars with romanesque capitals also carved with plants and zoomorphic motifs.
I don't want to get off track, but I sometimes go running past old buildings located in the urban environment. Many of those stones have a story to tell.

It is true as you have explained that the new stone of the old building has a long historical story of its own and is a silent witness of many events. I am glad I was invited to see the beauty of this ancient Roman church called Santa Maria Maggiore located in Tuscania (Central Italy).

The ancient Roman church building is apparently very old, built in 1206. Although it has been reconstructed, it still maintains its original architecture in the middle ages. It's a cultural heritage that should be preserved.
And what are the stories behind the other old buildings .. that you passed? definitely an interesting story to review it.

I like old buildings and architecture. Visited Rome before the pandemic and it is a lovely city. I would like to return to Rome and Italy again when travelling permits. The whites and grey stones show the carvings well. Following your blog.
