Aerobic training zone

On Sunday, January,  2, I had the first run of this new year. It was a relaxing run. Then I ran on  Monday  a tempo (45 minutes, average pace 4.50 minutes per km)  and on Wednesday, 1 hour and 7  minutes. Moreover, I did a gym session on Tuesday, the 4th of January. I was really delighted with my tempo run but while I was running fast on the way back a man asked me something. He said: "Could you tell me an information about the Tennis Club. Is it situated near here?". I quickly answered him: "The next street on the left!" Maybe he didn't understand because I answered while I was running. So, I decided to continue the tempo run.
Have you ever stopped during a run? Some runners sometimes stop during a run to chat with a friend or to take a photo. In this case, does the quickstop affect the training value?
I think that a midrun stop can drop we out of our aerobic training zone. This zone begins at 65 per cent of our maximum health rate. So, running at this level of intensity challenges our cardiovascular and muscular system enough to maintain or improve our fitness. As a consequence, midruns stop reduce the total amounts of time we're in the aerobic zone.
That's why I quickly answered and didn't stopped while I was doing the tempo run last Monday :)
I'd like to know your opinions about a stop during a run.
The photo above was taken while I was running the Orbetello's Christmas race on December,  19.
I hope that all my blogger friends will have a nice training!

The only run I'll stop in is a long, slow one. Each run has its own goals and the LSR is mainly to get aerobic fitness and spend a lot of time on your legs so I don't think a short chat really interferes with the outcome.

I don't usually mind stopping. If I am doing a particular workout like a pace run or a tempo run I certainly prefer not to.

If I'm on a tempo or goal paces run then no, I won't stop. If its a casual run or a long run I'm ok with stopping. My favorite run was the Virtual 5K where I took my camera and took pictures along the way.

When building my base or on long, slow runs I will stop but not when doing tempo runs.
I am not sure if stopping affects the effectiveness of training. There has been some research that suggests that it does not but I have not seen anything besides that one paper.
BTW, that is a cool photo.

Hi Giorgio,
The only time that I have stopped during runs are the long training runs. Usually I stop to refuel and drink water. I also did stop several times during the last six miles of my first marathon. I love the picture of you running...Anna Baby is the name of your running group/sponsor. Red is a good color on you:)

Nice job on your run! Way to kick off the new year! Happy training Giorgio:)

You've started the new year great with your runs and gym workouts.

I never stop during a run, I do walk sometimes but I'm always moving.

Sometimes I pass a friend but I say a quick hello and keep running.

A few weeks ago a car stopped and wanted to know directions and I was very inpolite and said I couldn't help him because I didn't want to stop running. A few days later it happened again with someone on a bike. Both we're pissed off by that but I don't care.

I mean it's obvious I'm running, what made you think I have time to stop?

If I'm on a normal run, I'm perfectly happy to stop. But on a tempo run, no. The other person must see that I'm working hard, I think it's rude of them to try and stop you.

A fast tempo run.
I remember one day when I had to stop my run because of a dogs attack .... who was the other runner, do you remember?

Grazie. Sicuramente faremo la correre per i Giardini. Comunque io ho predisposto un elenco di gare fattibili che puoi leggere sul mio blog cliccando su "2011 Race Schedule"; studialo anche tu e poi sceglieremo insieme. Tanto le foto le fa the squire, no???? Ma la colpa non è sua, è la nostra che non lo frustiamo mai abbastanza.

I usually do intervals on the treadmill at the gym and so I won't usually have to stop for any reason. During a long run I don't mind stopping to say hello to someone but not for too long or I get cold!
As for the yoga, I think you can do it at home but it does help to have a video to follow - you can find free ones at yogajournal.com and there might be some at runnersworld.com which are more specific to runners. Good luck and let me know how it works out!

Brisbane is going to be really flooded in the next day or so. My coach lives right near the river and has water in his garage. He may have to evacuate. Luckily my house should be okay. It may be one of the worst floods Brisbane has ever had.

I think you know that I stop very often to take photos and admire the views. I don't mind stopping on any runs. In fact the runs where I stop usually end up with better overall time. That said, I don't really do any speed type training.
